When Alex Gazzola asked me to be on the review and edit team for this book, I was very excited and happy because no one has really documented this condition in a cohesive format. I manage an online support group for over 10k people worldwide who are allergic to various isothiazolinones (methylisothiazolinone, methylchloroisothiazolinone, benzisothiazolinone and octylisothiazolinone are the most common allergens), and every day we get people coming who are newly diagnosed as being sensitized to MI and don't know what to do next. I knew of Alex's work on his own site and participation in his an other Facebook support pages, and he is a great researcher and fact-finder. This book is the most comprehensive and complete guide out there for patients and for their families. I hope also that medical professionals will read it too, or give it to their patients, because we are too often given misinformation or too little information. I highly recommend: it's easy to read, has plenty of resource links to find safe products and other info.
I was diagnosed with a Methylisothiazolinone allergy in November of 2014, after a year of begging my dermatologist to figure out what was wrong with my hands. I was sensitized by Walmart Brand baby wipes. I wish to goodness I had access to this book when I was first diagnosed. There is a plethora of very detailed and well researched information here that would have helped so much in the early months after diagnosis. That said, being as far into life with MI Allergy as I am, I still find this book reassuring and filled with helpful tips and product references. I thoroughly enjoyed the beginning of the book, where the history of the use of MI is discussed in length. My husband purchased this for me as a gift and I’m very grateful that he did. It is a quick read (took me about 2 1/2 hours) which means it will be easy to lend it to friends and family as a reference guide.
