It's a great book to add to the collection with more inspiring ideas of how to mix up all the stitches together. It teaches several different methods for laying down the crazy quilt foundation, How to embellish, dye your own fabric. There is a stitch dictionary, a gallery to stimulate ideas and 12 great projects inside. She even brings you out of the box with showing you how to use crazy quilting for clothing. I'm a fan. It was enough to cause me to go take a gander at her website. Amazing quilt artist, very inspiring work. The only thing I wish she offered more of were kits& patterns of some of her landscape work. The book offers more than enough detail of how to do landscape work and but for the slow artist in me step by step tends to overcome my fears of wasting a lot of materials while making all of my inevitable mistakes!
This book, by Judith Baker Montano has not only a wealth of stitches and directions to stitch them but shows how to combine them for best effect with different weights of thread and ribbon. Montano is considered one of the current greats in crazy quilting and embroidery and it shows in this wonderful little book. Leaf through it for both inspiration and technical assistance. Best of all it is spiral bound so it lays flat and small enough to travel easily in a work bag. The last section includes pointers for designing your own motifs, quilts and embroidery projects. Well worth the price of admission either new or used. I bought this both for myself and for a fellow crafter.
I have several books by this author. Each book has clearly illustrated stitch instructions. I have the distinct pleasure of knowing a student she has personally mentored. I am excited to extend my needle craft skills with this book
This beautifully illustrated book will regale and inspire anyone interested in embroidery. The beginner will find all the information along with detailed diagrams needed to learn. The experienced will find suggested combinations and new tricks. My copy came spiral bound so that it lays flat, making it easy to stitch while using the diagrams. Montana is "the one" who leads in this area and has many other great titles, too. This is the best in my opinion as far as "how to."
I gave this book 3 stars instead of 4 because it is for the advanced embroiderer, not a novice. My level is somewhere in between. This book shows many illustratons of elegant finished embroidery in color, with the directions on the same page in black and white, which makes it easier to follow. The beginning of the book covers how to use various fabrics, needles, threads, silk embroidery,hoops,design transfers, and more.
Beautiful book and in beautiful condition. I have done some crazy quilting and I love it. I made a crazy quilt robe for a Santa I sculpted. I used some of my grandmother's crochet lace, pieces from my wedding dress, my daughter's wedding dress(which I hand beaded the entire dress-took a year), and other momentous. That is the fun part of crazy quilting. I'm going to crazy quilt approx ten Christmas stockings which will be fun and I plan to use a lot of the stitches in this book. Fantastic book,fantastic condition. Thank you.
If I could rate this book with 6 Stars, I would. Beautifully written & illustrated, it provides step-by-step illustrations for every stitch you can imagine and includes special stitches used for silk ribbon embroidery. (And, for any "lefties" out there, it includes a section just for you.) Although many stitch/embroidery guides include many of these basics, there are literally hundreds of examples of motifs you can create by combining stitches. TRULY an INSPIRATIONAL GUIDE! I'm tempted to throw away the other embroidery books I own because this is literally the only one that anybody needs!
I had had my own copy of this book for several years and loved it. My daughter showed it to me at a store and said she wanted it for Christmas. I ended up ordering copies of each of my 3 daughters from Amazon. The instructions are clear and easy to understand and I love that it is spiral bound and lies open so well. I hate it when you're in the middle of s project and your book decideds to close on you. The size is handy too. It fits neatly in your workbasket. Highly recommend.
