This is an oversized book but looked great and the school kids I donated the books to loved it.
This oversized book in brilliant color photographs is a visual feast for anyone of any age who loves trains. All types are pictured right up to today's "bullet" and "superfast" trains. Unfortunately, none are in the US which made me jealous as I scanned the book prior to sending it to my grand nephews (5 and soon to be 4). The sleek lines and color are breathtaking. Imagine taking a luxury ride from NYC to Ft. Lauderdale, FL that could get you there in under 6 hours! It would be easier and better than flying. But, alas, so far we don't know where and how we could put down any track due to the density of our urban populations. For now, we must enjoy what we can see in Europe and China - and an "arm chair" traveler is still better than nothing at all. Mark my words. The kids will LOVE it. Trains are the in thing along with Dinosaurs.
Don't understand the overly critical review by "thinking mom." It's called the "Big Book of Trains;" the title is not deceptive. I saw this book at Amazon and thought it would be great for my 5-year old, who is always fascinated, studying the different types of trains on a poster at a local restaurant. I was right. If you and your child are not prospective members of MENSA or doing a dissertation on the history of trains for your PhD, then this book is a good value. It has good basic information about a number of different trains from their inception to the present, and has some nice large photos that my son likes to look at and learn about on an almost nightly basis. He says he likes the monorails, bullet trains, mountain trains, high-speed passenger trains, channel tunnel trains, snow trains and freight trains the best--he says). The large photos help keep a child's attention while they learn. The only criticism I would have is that it seems overly focused on European trains and only a little about American trains. Still, it's information we did not know before buying the book. Enjoy.
This book is very tall! It has alot of big words and alot of words on each page. Lots of colors and lots of details. I originally bought this for my 4 year old but he will able to understand it better with age. It has 32 pages! Snow trains, mountain trains, monorails, bullet trains, freight trains, etc.
This book was purchased as a memorial for someone who had recently passed away, who had a career with the railroad. It was donated to our school's library. It is large book and has beautiful photographs. We are very pleased with it.
Good book for an older child who is into trains. A bit too much for my 3 year old to follow at this moment, but we still go through it talking about each train and its parts instead of going through the deeper informative text. This book I would say is 5 years old and up.
Everything your child ever wondered about trains is in the glossy pages of this wonderful book! Very wordy for a child aged 10 or younger. My 8 year old struggles with self-healing this one, but loves turning through the pages or being read to from this book. A must have in my opinion for train lovers!
This was a Christmas gift for my son and 11 months later he still loves it and reads it nearly every day. Lots of good information and huge pictures. I will looking for more books in this range this christmas.
Our kids love this book! They love to look at the nice pictures but also learn about all the different trains. Really great book.
